So after stewing about our experience, Josh and I decided to go into the BYU Police Headquarters to follow up on the report made against us. We aren't the most happy with how the police handled the situation, mostly with just barging in and making a sarcastic remark towards Josh. Then, after realizing the report was not true, the cops just left. We went in to ask what the actual procedure is when the police get a report of domestic violence. We were able to speak to the actual officer that came to our apartment and he let us read the report he wrote about the incident. Instead of filing it under domestic, he filed it under a welfare check, which is better than domestic. He was nice and seemed apologetic about how the situation was handled. We told him we would have greatly appreciated the cops coming back to us after they investigated the situation and following up with us. We would have appreciated them apologizing for the intrusion and telling us about what they investigated. He apologized for not handling it that way; he said he was embarrassed and he didn't want to make things any worse and intrude any more than they already had. We appreciated his sincerity and he told us that if we were worried about our neighbors, we should just tell them that the cop is even more red-faced than we are about it.
We also found out that our upstairs neighbor lied again to us. Josh read the report and it stated exactly what was reported by our neighbor. He told the police that he heard a voice say, "Ow, stop. That hurts!" Then he said he heard a male voice say, "Well, it's going to hurt a lot more." Haha. Sorry, I couldn't help myself from laughing when Josh read that to me. It's just absolutely ridiculous. I don't know what kind of drugs our neighbor was on at the time, but apparently he was on something because I have no idea where this is all coming from. There was nothing in the report about him hearing a "snapping" noise. The officer also told us that when they realized that there was no domestic dispute going on in our apartment, they thought what our neighbor heard was maybe coming from a different apartment. So they went next door, and when they found Wendy home alone, they thought her husband was maybe hiding somewhere. They searched her apartment!!! Can you believe that!? I just couldn't believe that Wendy was apologizing to me when I went to see her for having to go through all that and the cops actually searched her apartment! The cop told us they were even looking under beds and whatnot! Oh my gosh!
Anyways, Josh and I are really glad that we got to read the report and talk to the cop. We also got to explain ourselves better to the cop because when they came, we were so shocked that we weren't even able to explain what we had been doing. We're still frustrated with our neighbor for again lying to us. We gave him so many opportunities to be honest with us about what he heard, what he told the cops, etc. and he lied. Oh well. We had such a relaxing weekend with the Sharp's that we're almost over it all! :)
